Design Technology

The named Design Technology Subject Leader at Our Lady's is Mrs H Spear

Design Technology (D.T.) at Our Lady's School aims to:

  • teach D.T. in line with Curriculum 2014
  • give all children the opportunity to develop their designing capabilities through a variety of planned activities
  • develop children's knowledge and understanding of D.T. as a process of designing, making and evaluating a product with a purpose
  • develop D.T. skills using a range of tools, materials and components safely.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage this is part of children's creative development. They learn to handle tools, objects, construction and malleable materials safely and with increasing control.

At Key Stages 1 and 2, the D.T. curriculum is supported by our scheme of work developed by the Design and Technology Association.

At Key Stages 1 and 2 some D.T. is incorporated into Creative Curriculum lessons.  Three times a year, D.T. units are taught across 8 - 12 hours to ensure thorough coverage of the skills ans content of the curriculum.

Most resources are centrally stored and are updated in line with our Design Technology scheme of work.  Resources for specific topics may be stored in classrooms.
