Please go through the PowerPoint 1 first to introduce the concept of mass by identifying heavy and light items. Please allow your child to hold an object in each hand to feel the weight and use the terms heavy and light. They should also feel how heavy is 1 kg, 500 grams, 250 grams, 100 grams and so on so that they could begin to estimate the weight of the objects. Simply holding 1kg of sugar or bag of apples, various sizes of tin or jar food will increase the accuracy of their estimation skills. Remember to read the labels for weight first so they know exactly what it feels like holding those weights.
Sorting activity sheet is attached if needed, however photos of your child holding various items and labelling them as heavy or light will be a fantastic way to show their involvement in the activity.
The second PowerPoint introduces ways of comparing mass using objects by just counting the objects. There is no need to produce a written work, just going through the activities on the slides will be enough.
